Ari Chaves' work ruminates on memory’s conflicting ability to harm and to heal. This notion is communicated through the spaces and objects that surround you during the most traumatic moments, and the most mundane. She collages actual and imagined spaces and histories with visual and emotional material collected from different sites and points in time. In these works, the experience of living with certain memories, while navigating obstacles of present-day life can be expressed through subtly chaotic compositions and forced perspectives.
